I was doing some surfing and ran into this gem. Now this is some serious shit for Hip-Hop music lovers out there. Gotta give props to the dude that assembled and put all these mixes out there for download and stream. He basically dug up all the real classics and meanest joints from the past and put them in year coded mixes ranging from1980-2009. Each of the mixes is about 150mb and well worth the bandwidth, and hard drive space. This is not to be missed.

For those of you with the taste and thirst for R&B take a listen to Jenna Garcia’s new album “Get Well Soon” and download it for free until November 23 from the download link above.

The first Single off the album will be Shooter and will hit radio stations nation-wide in Canada on November 20th; the single features fellow Canadians JRDN and Kat Torres. On the US side the Grinehouse produced single “Get You Out My Head” is set for radio at the current time.

On November 23rd the Get Well Soon remixes will be mixed and hosted by DJ Nora Tones and mixes on Drake, Kanye, Jay-Z and Swizz records will be featured.

All singles from “Get Well Soon” will be available on I-Tunes as of Nov. 23rd.

Mixology 101: DJ Reddy Fox Neo Soul Mix (Downloadable)

After listening to this month’s Reddy Mix, I am officially in the most relaxed mood I’ve been in all day. It begins with the smooth sounds of the handsome Maxwell and ends with the soulful voice of the late Amy Winehouse. The mix is versatile, displaying a little bit of old and new age R&B. It’s definitely music that can be grooved to anywhere , anytime.

Detroit steppers find it only natural to hustle to this mix all night. Speaking of Detroit, Raphael Saadiq made a cameo while serenading his favorite ‘Detroit Girl.’

Jill Scott, Sade, Musiq Soulchild, R. Kelly and Jimmy Cozier also contributed their soulful voices and relatable lyrics to the listening experience.

I’ll have to admit, I’m not really a fan of mixes because I find that the chosen song selection doesn’t usually flow. However, after listening to this installment of Reddy’s Mix, my view on R&B mixes has changed. Reddy chose complimentary songs and made them intertwine effortlessly. I can envision myself jamming to this mix while on a drive home from work to relax and take the edge off. A great transition piece to move from the hustle and bustle of the day to the ease and chill of the night.

Regardless of age or music preference, all listeners should appreciate and enjoy this sampling of Mixology 101.

Rewinder: 90′s R&B mixed by Dj Reddy Fox

Remember when guys used to actually dance with girls when they went out to the club? The good vibes in the air were so thick, the club was rammed, and everyone was partying on the dance floor! Sure you were there to be seen too, but mostly you were there to DANCE! Find the sexiest girl you could and sweat to the grooves of some of the world’s best Djs! (Toronto even back then had some of the best Dj talent ever!) Then at the end of the night, the Dj closed it out with the sickest set of slow jams that was technically designed to clear out the club, but nobody wanted to leave because the music was so sweet and you just had to get in that last piece of bumpin’ and grindin’! If you don’t remember, then chances are you were an “80′s baby” and weren’t allowed in the clubs. Not at all suggesting that y’all don’t appreciate the outstanding music memories that were the 90′s ‘Golden Era’, but you just weren’t there. To truly appreciate the vibe of the music scene back then, you just had to be there!

My brother from another mother Dj Reddy Fox just did this 90′s R&B mix that instantly took me back! If names like Jodeci, New Edition, SWV, give you chills up your spine, then you already know what I’m talking about. I remember letting my New Edition ‘All for love’ cassette rock til the tape popped! (Ya that was ’85, but still… have I dated myself? LOL!)

The funny thing about R&B during the 90′s was how separate of a genre it was back then as compared to this current ‘iPod Generation’, where genres have become as mixed up as Toronto’s cultural landscape. There was Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae/Dancehall, and they all had very specific sets during the dance. You had your Hip Hop Djs come in to play the Hip Hop set, R&B Dj specialists, then the Reggae Dj came on. Each of them had about 10 crates of records (which their entourage would carry for them so they could get into the club for free!), and kept the party going all night long.

I could go on and on about the memories I have, but really I’d rather just let Reddy Fox take you on a trip down memory lane with this sweet 90′s R&B mix. Tune in and let the music take you back. Enjoy and download it to play on I Tunes if you like by pressing the down arrow!
