When you first encounter Anthony Pereira, his soft tone speaking style lures you in and makes you want to hear more of what he has to say. And rarely does he waste words. His only intention is to provide you with as much information as you need to help you attain your goal. With a firm belief that ‘By helping others help themselves, I myself will grow…’, he genuinely puts the needs of his clients first. Many of them only know him as their ever devout and knowledgeable Personal Trainer, but Anthony is actually a Clinical Physiologist in Orthopedic research. A Restorative Care Specialist, if you please (as indicated by the many letters that follow his name). In other words, when he tells you to perform the ‘Palm alphabet’ exercise every night before you go to bed, no matter how silly you feel, you should probably do it if you want to get the results you’re seeking.
How does one go from getting a Masters degree in Clinical Physiology to becoming a ‘mere’ Personal Trainer? To hear Anthony tell it, it was a calling. Mind you, what he does could not nearly be considered as just ‘personal training’. With his understanding of how properly applied fitness measures could indeed help to prevent many of the body’s ailments, he decided to incorporate PT into his repertoire to help educate people about the importance of taking a proactive approach to maintaining one’s health.
With that purpose in mind, he created Train Or Be Trained (www.whotrains.com). TOBT serves as a virtual tool for anyone interested in furthering their journey to physical well being. In addition to his PT services, the website also offers community wellness seminars, and a not-for-profit web-show which showcases Personal Trainers that go above and beyond the call of duty for their clients, and is becoming increasingly popular. The show in particular serves to educate people on how to better understand fitness and health through the eyes of trainers.
Anthony is a man who has overcome many tribulations throughout his life, so the passion with which he approaches his work comes almost from a sense of obligation he feels to make the most of the opportunity he’s received to turn his life around. And in turn, he strives to help others to take advantage of the opportunity to do better for themselves.
‘By helping others help themselves, I myself will grow…’. Anthony does just that, one client at a time.
